Description:

This training will give a brief introduction to a few evidence based treatments for rehabilitative care for those who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. The training will give an in-depth look at utilizing applied behavior analysis as a treatment methodology for those with TBI. Participants in the training will gain an understanding of the principles of behavioral science and how to apply these principles to treatment. Examples include how to capture the motivation of patients, utilizing positive reinforcement to influence behavior change, and how to break complex tasks into small teachable behaviors to promote learning.

Objectives: At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:

• Describe ‘traumatic brain injury’

• Give examples of the long-term impairments that people often experience after sustaining a traumatic brain injury

• Identify several resources available to individuals with TBI and their families

• List several examples of evidence based treatments for traumatic brain injury

• Define Applied Behavior Analysis

• Define positive reinforcement

• Create a task analysis for a daily skill

• Be able to apply basic strategies of applied behavior analysis to the everyday lives of those with TBI
